Directions To See A Ghost - The Black Angels
Written by: Aaron J. Marko
There is a certain mindset that you should carry with you upon first listening to The Black Angels' newest release. The desperation, if you will, that comes from sleep deprivation. Or perhaps the hangover left from shooting horse into your dick for the past month. But it is within that particular moment of nausea, madness, and absolute exhaustion that 'Directions To See A Ghost' will make the most sense, enveloping you in a cocoon of sound. The beat is always pulsing and throbbing, lurching forward with every motion. The guitars and vocals drive the melodic center home, allowing the bass to fill the space left between the chords - all of it culminating in a near perfect concoction. of course 'Directions To See A Ghost' isn't for everyone. With long song lengths and drones, most will wonder how long they've been listening to the same song for. At worst, it will sit in the background, being ignored. But for those with the patience, this is definitely one trip you'll want to take more than once.
