A Message to the Dooms Day AdvocatesYou can do all the recycling you want but some things just don't jive with the boys down at the recycling plants. What's up with refusing hard plastics and kind of everyday crap? There's still tones of garbage going into the cess pools of pollution we call a land fill site. What control do we have over it, we're only the consumers the producers are the point source of the problem. If you want a cleaner world someone's got to step in and regulate those corporate bums. Someone's got to step in and hit the target in the higher levels, the industries that pollute not only through toxic waste but through the excessive overkill on packaging. If we were smart instead of lazy we’d all shop in Bulk and keep using the same bags. It would take some dedication, but you could shrink your ecological foot print from a size 12 to a size 10. We can't help but feel a little sorry for ourselves, we've got politicians too predisposed with other business scandals and wars to consider putting together a plan so that we stop destroying our planet. Some countries and I think you know who I'm talking about, if you need another hint they're also the largest polluter won't even sign the Kyoto Accord which only calls for a small cut in global emissions. Another problem we have is the sticky web of marketing media. Have you seen the Waste Management Company's commercial on T.V. ? the one where you see people playing on soccer field that sits on top of a pile of waste. Don't worry we've got under control, you can waste all you want. A perfect example of television myopia, an illusion that garbage isn't bad for the environment and it builds a strong community. There's probably some school out there doing a garbage drive so they can get a new state of the art garbage field. Why not some schools are owned by soft drink companies. Who knows what's next. What about the mentality behind "what should I care, I won't see thing environment decay that badly in my life time, what do I care about the next generations, this my time". Yes this is our time, but we're just renting, don't make someone else pay the damage deposit. For all of those with this "fuck it attitude syndrome", wake up! We, the human race are a bunch of inconsiderate slobs waiting for dooms day. Quit feeding the dump bears. |
